Chandigarh Cycling hold first BMX Show at Panjab University Campus grounds. The BMX which as has recently been made an Olympic event apart from circuit races is very challenging and comes in the Xtreme sports category. Dr. Rakesh Mohindra a UCI certified International Commissaire who earlier in 2000 very successfully introduced and develop the Mountain Biking in cycling sports discipline, which is now very popular among tough sports persons who love sports and concern with environment and nature. 

 

As the BMX racing (Bicycle Motocross) is very popular sports in Europe and USA is now catching up all around the prominent sporting country due to its economical nature as it requires very less infrastructure and viewed as community sports where families comes together to develop and enjoy outdoor sports activities after harsh cold weather. 

 

Around 20 budding Champions representing Manipur, Shillong, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Patna, Delhi and Agartala took part in the show and exhibit their cycling skills and tricks in Flatland and Street BMX which normally do a routine display of acrobats on BMX bikes defying gravity and hoping to very higher obstructions put up in the arena.  

 

Rakesh Mohindra who is poising to kick start the adventurous sports event, which is now an Olympic event and also included in MACA trophy event list by AIU. As presently India is not formally organising this event and taking part in international events. Chandigarh BMX show has brought together the Expert BMX players to setup clubs in different cities and soon hold a national level competitions in Chandigarh mainly in Flatland and Street BMX category. It is  very important to know that very young players attaining 6 years age can take part in BMX sport and excel in the sport as suitable and Cheap cycling equipment is available in the market. 

 

Prof. Prashant Gautam Director Sports, Panjab University allowed the event to be conducted in the Panjab University. Prof Gautam who is very keen to adopt unique sporting events approved by the AIU  has promised the players to provide all support to budding players as he expressed that to maintain the lead and bring Panjab University at top positions it is very important to adopt and develop unique sporting disciplines. The Sports Department later host the participant with refreshments and Prof. Prashant Gautam interacted with the sports person from different regions. During the show Mr. Parteek Bhasin a local BMX Champion was honoured and presented with Chandigarh Cycling jersey for winning the first position in the recently concluded Mountain Bike and BMX festival at Manali. 

Rakesh Mohindra also shared the formal rules and regulations of BMX events to all the participants and setup a national centre for providing all support to develop this game in the country, he also informed that soon a website will be hosted to bring all interested players in the country bring at one place.
